Downshifting to first gear from a roll

From my limited experience driving Stooks, I felt that second gear at 15-20 did not provide even 'brisk' acceleration at 1/2-3/4 throttle. I didn't expect it to be fast under those conditions...but I had hoped it would feel a little zippy.
Maybe I just need some more pilot time.

I use first gear all of the time in situations such as yours. Of course the faster you are moving the tougher it becomes to match the speed as you downshift. First gear also magnifies any mistakes, since it is the lowest gear ratio in the box.
I think that I would have shifted into first before I went through the corner. STRONG acceleration out of the corner is nice.
I don't see any problems with the synchros in first gear at any speed that first will handle. I generally decelerate by downshifting most of the time and I don't skip first gear.

I just went out and tried the senario with slowing to 25mph for the corner by down shifting to first at 35mph. It is hard to give it much without the rear breaking loose and fishtailing at those rpms. It was really nice having the instant surge but way overboard for on the street. It should be left for the track. Probably just leaving it in second would be adequate 100% of the time.
What would your RPMs be coming around the corner at 25 in SECOND? And do you think it would give you ample 'pull' at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle....enough to get around another car without too much drama?
I have had my S as a daily driver for almost a year and have never "had" to rev into VTEC in normal conditions. I have found that because the S2000 handles so well it doesn't feel like it is going as fast as it is most of the time.
