Default drag racing

hey guys... just have a few questions.... i know its not the fastest... but i enjoy taking my car to the track and seeing the times i can get... but i have some questions about it

i here all the time that the diff breaks from dragging... is there a way to prevent this from happening?

also...
after that i ran pretty consistant 15.387-15.6.... i was trying to launch it at 4000... realized that didnt work.. brought it up to 7... worked better... then up to 8 and above and got my best time.... its weird though... i was having really good launches up high, but then the rpms would just drop back down to 4000, i dont know what that is, but i was pretty dissapointed with my times.... oh well!
what can i do to get faster times

this is in alberta canada... so higher elvation... so the times should actually be like high 14's.... 15 flat

I've launched between 4000-6000. Our track elevation is about 600-800 feet.

i've NEVER run worse than a 14.3. I even ran a 14.4 WITHOUT a clutch dump. My best is a 13.7. This is not a hard car to drive, to be honest. your launching rpm will depend completely on traction conditions.

you want to try to launch at a point which will get you a good 2-3 seconds of wheelspin, and once the tires stop spinning, your goal is to be at 6000rpm.

try lowering the back tire pressure to about 24psi and keep the fronts at 32 or 34. this will also help your launching and times.

to prevent the diff from breaking, just make sure you are launching properly. ALWAYS dump the clutch. NEVER feather it. your diff should be fine. if you're really paranoid you can get the comptech reinforced diff.

oh, and because I'm sure someone will want to post and say it, yes yes we all know the S2000 wasn't "made" for drag racing, but some of us like to do it and it happens to do it pretty damn good if you can drive.

If you're at too high of an RPM with really sticky tires (usually slicks) and dump the clutch at around 7-8, you will definitely snap axles or damage the diff.

For stock tires you should be fine, just learn not to ride/feather the clutch and hook up in the Vtec powerband.

im going to try lowering my cars psi...
i dont plan on dragging too much... im scared of working the car to hard

Why would dumping the clutch be easier on the diff than feathering it? Seems to me like feathering the clutch would be easier on the diff, but bad for the clutch. Is it because you'll get some wheel spin by dumping?

I actually was playing with this the other night and found that the first few times I didn't come off the clutch fast enough and the clutch just seemed to not catch once I was totally off it. I don't think I burnt my clutch because subsequent trials all produced spinning tires, but the smell the couple times I did feather was nasty.

My question is how do you know if you damaged the diff or clutch? I know taking the clutch apart would show shiny spots where its burnt, but with 1300 miles on the car I figure I couldn't do enough damage in two slips of the clutch to kill it. And, what about the diff, is there something (other than it won't move and makes lots of noise) that would indicate diff damage?
