Default Driftday 7

Driftday 7 was last saturday (july 26). lots of drifters out there, but only 3 s2000. a black, sebring silver, and a white one. ben schaffer was out there tearing it up in his supercharged, mugen hardtop, carbon fiber everything, white s2k. i was out there too, havin a blast trying to get a good feel for the car. i didnt get a chance to meet the black s2000 driver, but in the middle of the day he blew a tire and i thnk just watched the rest of the day. overall there were all 240 sx's, corollas, and rx-7. there was one nsx and a 350z, but other than that your basically crop of drift cars and their sr20 swap.

end of the day, my s2ooo finally gave in, the tires held up, but the clutch just went poof. i barely had enough grab to get home and to the mechanics. i gotta get a new clutch disk and clutch plate.$$$!!! doh. not to mention a new set of tires. any suggestions for either would be great guys. sorry i dont have pictures guys, my camera was acting stupid and wouldnt let me save on mem stick. all i got was 21 some minutes of driving the shiet out of the s2000. fun stuff guys, might want to sign up for driftday 8 in the future.

oh yea, the instructors said the s2000 was too perfect for drifting. traction was kinda hard to break and the front tires would grab the pavement like a cat. this car just has a hard time breaking loose. im thnking about adjusting the camber for the next event or just get a 240sx.

check out www.driftday.com or www.club4ag.com for pictures. i thnk they are gonna post em up soon.

I would never do anything like this to my S. It doesn't bother you that you have to keep replacing broken parts from all this hard driving?

Stuff wears out whether you have fun with the car or not. Might as well have fun, unless your worried about the need to sell the car in the future.

Good for you! I'm glad some people are getting involved in the stuff like that! Thumbs up. Off course your car can get damaged, parts can and will wear out, but in the end you will always have benefit. It takes a driver to drive a car, and remember: "First man, then machine".

About the clutch: If you did not use the clutch kick, then the was already worn out. If you did, I suggest avoiding it, since with a car balanced like s2000, there are numerous techniques to induce the drift.

Regarding the s2000 as a drift car, I think its major disadvantages are no-low-torque-engine and small powerband (which is almost a must for drifting) and short wheelbase, which provokes fast and accurate (due to directness of steering) reactions. In the other hand, s2000 has beatufully balanced and rigid chassis, very responsive NA engine (no lag, you just have to have fight the small powerband to have the wheelspin) and off course lsd. In my opinion, it is kinda hard to drift on narrow public roads in low speeds, since 1st gets too short and 2nd too long for having a wheelspin. On closed circuits, s2000 is a beauty to drift with, you should just avoid high grip tires at the back. Oh, it is good thing that car does not have much understeer - at least if you're not Takumi doing its 4wheel drift...

To all who feel sorry for the car: It is just a car - that can be bought, technique can't be. And the latter is what counts. And let me tell you something. There isn't anything worst than babying your car and then having to pay for the unexpected and unexplainable repairs. Once you have the experience like that, you will change the opinion for good. Because if you drive your car and then pay for repairs, you at least now why you paid for: FUN, and bigtime. Go and drive your cars and go and learn, because the s2000 can be the endless source of knowledge and technique. It can be the car that trains you. And when I say drive, I don't mean go out and do some crazy city driving, or burn the hell out of your clutch or tires... do heel-toe, counter steer, throttle steer, feint,...
