Default Drifting the s2?

As some of you know, I picked up my s2k for the price a 1990 240 goes for so I want to make it a full drift/touge banger for shits and giggles.

I'm hearing some myths of the diffs or axles not being able to hold up, can anyone give me some insight on if the stock gearing can withstand it.

If its of any relevance, both s2 and the miata diffs were made by Torsen. I used to drift miatas, a lot! the diffs were the first to go, but a lot of the times it was like playing russian roulette. Some hold up to the abuse, some fail at even street driving.

Its not actually the diff, its the diff caps that suck on our differentials. The torsen is also not "liked" by the drift community, you could always get a 2-way diff though. The s2000 is easy to get sideways but its not that easy to keep it from kicking over. Since you got the s so cheap, its probably going to be the older 00-01? If it is, you should look at getting a anti-bumpsteer kit, it'll probably make the car more predictable while drifting.

I can get the car sideways and hold it....in a parking structure, but on the pavement I don't like the feeling that much, it rotates really quickly. The 240s ive driven rotate slowly and predictably. Even a camaro is easier to hold sideways than the s2000... just my opinion.

Very short wheelbase makes the S a handful sideways. Should have just bought a 240.

You'd be better off making it a track car, and trying to go fast in it instead.

Check out the RS-R s2000 and how much money they put into it to make it a drift car that wasn't even very good. You're going to have a lot less luck making the S2000 fun to drift at all.

Check out this feature in Hondatuning and it will show you just how much work it takes to make a drift s2000.

I used to drift my s from time to time and I killed the diff in less than a year since I got the car!!

S2000 is really not built for drifting... it is almost impossible to hold the drift over 45 degress for over 1 sec imo...

I got a 240 later on, bone stock with welded diff makes it a better drift car than the s already~

Seriously, you are better off selling the s and get a 240!!

If you really want to drift the s no matter what, here is what I suggest:
-rear bump steer kit
-max front camber, -0.5 rear camber, and 0 toe front and rear
-put 50+psi on rear tires
-max rear tire size I recommend for stock power is 225/ 16
-use e-brake to initiate, DO NOT clutch kick

just my .02

Also, doesn't the lack of torq frustrate you?
