Ive taken mine through automatic car washes. No issues here. My seals are just fine. I spray them with silicone monthly

My '01 is also better than my old '99 Miata, and Miatas are considered pretty good at keeping water out. However, if you park near trees, watch out for those drains. They can get clogged with leaves and overflow all over the inside of your car.
Ha ha - i always avoid parking under trees after a little incident I had last summer.

I got in my MR2 on a roasting hot day, immediately managing to burn myself on the black leather - yeouwch !

I then key the engine forgetting I'd left the stereo blasting which scares the shit out of me suddenly coming on at ear shredding volume - I jump with surprise again - yeowch burn myself on the leather again.

I then turn the air con on full pelt and a load of seeds from the tree must have dropped into the vents somehow because I get peppered with tiny seeds like machine gun fire right in the face! Jump out of my skin again - yeowch burn myself on the leather AGAIN.

Smooth operator! (I'm hoping no-one saw me!)

Never park under trees!

to those who take their s2000's to automated car washes... WTH ARE YOU THINKING... it's not just due to the fact that it may cause a leak, it does a slasher job to your paint. Rub ur clean cotton towel on the ground, then rub it nice and good into your paint. Clean it off... "oh but it looks clean!" yeah well look at it from an angle and tell me there isn't any scratching on the clearcoat. Now imagine a big truck that is covered in that same exact mud takes it to the car wash. What happens to those flaps that clean the dirt off ur car? Not like they clean them... especially if ur right behind this truck.

And anyways, back on topic, yeah, when i first bought mine i had to drive 300 miles home and it rained on me. I noticed some slight leaking from the top, did some research, regreased the seals and haven't had a problem since. I think two main things to concern urself with are the strikers and the seals for leakage in that area...

Never had a garaged spot for the car, no leaks, only time water gets in is when I'm hosing it down when I'm washing it and a couple of drops seap through. In real heavy rain at 80mph (yeah yeah), not a single drop. Just take care of the top, keep an eye on those rubber seals and you should be fine. But the top isn't like sheetmetal so I;d imagine at some point a leak will happen, but that's the cost of owning a vert.
Btw, there are automated washes that use water jets instead of brushes or whatever, I personally think they're worse because of the high pressure of those systems. I remember sitting in one thinking man, I bet this would blow right through my seals.

Thats funny because my paint is perfect, no scratches whatsoever. Im pretty anal about my paint so if the auto car wash was dicking it up I would notice right away when im detailing the car I only use them on a rare occasion though, when its extremely hot outside or too damn cold to be out holding a garden hose

Compared to other convertibles I owned, it's pretty tight. A small leak here and there, but nothing I worry, and I'm anal.

My car is almost 7 years old and has never leaked the first drop.

Get a good car cover to keep the sun off the car when you're not driving it and things like the paint and carpet won't fade excessively (plus, the car will be cooler on sunny days).

The roof itself never leaks, but if it was previously raining, the top is still wet and you go to lower it...well, you better have a towel ready
