Drive Shaft
My drive shaft is leaking at the front where it attaches/conects to the transmission. The design is such that it is a closed system and there is no way to add fluid.
I believe my drive shaft problem was created by the dealer and want to see if anyone else has had this problem before approaching the dealer.
The only cure is to replace the drive shaft - it cannot be repaired.
My problem begain when I notified the dealer my transmission was not shifting properly. Instead of replacing the transmission, they replaced the synchros. The tech "neglected" to properly tighten the bolts connecting the shaft to the transmission when finishing up.
While driving the vehicle one day, the car began shaking and bucking, and making a horrific noise. My choices were stop, go to a dealer about 8 miles away or to my own mechanic about 2 miles away. I chose my mechanic.
They immediately put the car on a rack and checked it out. 4 of the 6 bolts conecting the shaft to the transmission were gone and the other 2 were almost completely undone.
A call to the dealer and a tow truck was dispatched and they "fixed it." That was back in 2/01.
Is it reasonable to assume that wrenching the shaft took contributed to the leaking?
