Default Driving a NEW S2000 on the highway?!?

I am getting my new S today or tomorrow and had a question about the break-in. I've read a lot about the break-in period, but can't find an answer to this specific question.

I drive on the highway everyday (min. 55mph road every day). I'm concerned since you are not supposed to have your car at constant RPM's for long periods of time. Is there some other way I can make highway driving safe during my break-in period? I can go faster and slower, but then I'll drive people crazy! Any suggestions you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

You don't say how long you go on the freeway but if it is not too long, that and a mix of city driving should be ok. You can vary speeds but you can also vary what gear you are in to change RPM's (still below 6000 RPM)

Whatever you do!! Enjoy your S2000!!

Just takes varying your speed, germ. Mine is a daily freeway driver, and I broke mine in by varying it's speed between 55-65 miles/hr. I drive 75-100 miles a day on the freeway, and so far I've got over 3700 miles on it in a little over two months.

Results?
She purrs purrfectly
gas mileage is over 300 miles per tank
my break-in oil is still topped off, looking like Tupelo Honey...

No worries, mate. Enjoy the break-in period. I believe freeway break-in is better than in-town driving, anyway; in my opinion.

Hey Germ,

Where'd you get it, what did you pay? I am in the same area as you, and I'm just starting my search for an S. Thanks.

As for break-in, try using different gears... 6th, 5th, maybe even 4th if the revs are below 6K. This way, you can keep your road speed fairly constant, but will vary engine speed, which is the important thing. Basically, you're just trying to avoid 1 small RPM range for long periods of time.

Enjoy!

Honda's manual just says not to hit vtec for 600 miles...

I took mine from a dealership in Ft. Lauderdale on a wed night.. put 100 on that night

Thurs morning, I drove to Roebling road outside Savannah. another 500 miles... 600 total...

then put 240 miles on the car on a track...

the car BEGS for it...

you're fine on the Highway.. mine is my daily driver to manhattan

Just don't hit VTEC or use cruise control. Who cares if you piss people off by driving slow? Just stay to the right and let people pass you. It is only for 600 miles, so shift frequently and make sure to rev match. Have fun.
