Default Driving observations in the S

Do you fellow S2K drives notice that drivers around you act differently when you're in your S? I swear, I have been paying attention to this for the past year and people act more aggressively when my S2 is around their car. I get more people speeding up rapidly when I am behind them, or just drive really fast when I approach as if I am racing them.

This is not a placebo or perception thing either I have noticing this since I got this car almost a year ago. I don't tailgate people either it is one of my pet peeves. I used to drive my Mazdaspeed 3 every day for 3 years and people didn't notice or react to the car at all. I guess it just blended in.

Maybe it is because the car is so low and aggressive looking that it sparks a "I won't let you pass me in your sportcar" response from other driver's, who knows.

I can drive my Accord to work, observe the other drivers and no one does this. I hop in the S, just casually approaching a car and all of the sudden they will floor it.

It is weird because when I am in my Accord in a semi-hurry, and wish people would speed up they don't at all. But, when in the S and I am not in a rush, just slowly approaching traffic then all of the sudden it's like the green light just went off at a race track.

I am considering putting a go-pro camera on the front of my car to prove to my wife this phenomenon. She told me its in my head but I wouldn't make this shit up for the hell of it.

I honestly don't like the attention this car gets. Sure I drive a little briskly, but never reckless and unsafe, but I am only doing it because the car is so fun, and willing. On top of that I used to drive my Ms3 the same way for the most part but nobody reacted to it.

I notice this too.

Other drivers act even more crazy if you have the top down and it's a nice day out. Jealousy most likely reason.

Most average idiots on the road in their SUV's pickups, Sedans and Crossovers see a convertible sports car as a luxury, a luxury they can't ever have because they have kids, they are too fat, insurance is too much, etc. So naturally most people are going to show hate toward sport cars, especially convertibles. Get used to it.

Try riding a sport bike, it's even worse. Especially since there are so many young idiots who ride sport bikes who have given all riders a bad name.

I don't have this issue. Once in a great while somebody will decide they can keep up with me on some of the stretches of road around here with multiple roundabouts or curves, but that's about it. This guy in a new TL almost plowed into the outside curb and had to slam on his brakes when he carried way too much speed going into one of the roundabouts but I was so far ahead of him it didn't put my car in danger. He plowed hard and I'm surprised he was able to save it.

Can't say that I do. I notice most people are bad drivers and are out to kill me on the open road. I treat all drivers like their morons and occasionally I get surprised with an exception.

Little kids in their riced out 20 year old cars do rev at me now and again. I let them race away. Too old to play street race boy.

It depends where you are. It just looks blue to you from earth because of the atmosphere scattering the light.

When looking at the sky from the moon, the sky is certainly not blue.

I am sure everyone on S2000 talk has appreciated your inexact science comment.

Was just wondering perhaps if anyone else noticed this behavior by other drivers. Bored at work today, slow day.

People act like that out of jealousy IMO. What you described happens to me all the time. I got an a-hole in a lifted truck 2 days ago that drove on the dirt on the side of the road, just to spit up dirt/rocks/etc. at me. I might have been because he was jealous that I had my top down and it was only 50 degrees out, but I don't know. Here in Oregon most people are annoyed if someone has a top down on their car and it's not 85+ degrees.

As far as your speed3 goes... To me, the simple fact is that the car looks exactly the same as a regular mazda3 to people who know nothing about cars. So they don't know that the speed3 is powerful and has a turbo. At least that's my opinion.

You drive a Johnny Tranmobile. Deal with it. Lulz, but just as stated above, we drive a convertible sports car. Of course other people will get jelly brah. I drive my S a lot, and I can honestly say that I get at least one driver a day who wants to race and/or dick with me.

As Sun Tzu, author of "The art of war" once said, "behind every S2000 driver lies a pack of haters."

I believe itis a function of size. A larger car people seem to react giving you room and distance, a smaller car they bumper hug and cut off, cuze your smaller, that's my thinking about it...after all we are in Hondas, they carry no pinash or badge envy, convertibles are all over the place. The guys who drive Miatas may agree with me, nobody gives you the right of way. I have owned two of these,at least with the larger Honda they seem to not cut in front as often.
