Default Driving the S2000

What a joy it is to drive this magnificent machine. I am so lucky to own an S. One of the many things I love about driving the S: 80 MPH, 6,000 RPM, 4th gear...

I think you speak for every S2000 owner. After 15 yrs of first driving an '05 and currently an '08, I can't imagine driving any thing else.
It's still a blast! Glad to hear you're having fun!

I could have easily ended up in a driver quality MG or Triumph or Austin Healy, or even a Miata. The reason I ended up in an S2k is #1) reliability and better creature comforts over the old english cars (which I love by the way), and #2) aesthetics. I had no idea what I was getting into. Pure luck.

Yup I took mine to a get together yesterday and drove home late last night with the top down and it was awesome. Have to get out more for some nightime topdown driving.

I’ve had mine for 4 years now and it feels like I just got it. There is nothing else I would replace it with for less than double the price.

I wanted one when the fast and furious came out in early 2000s
I worked at a car dealership as a teen when they were sold, couldn't afford one
2009 I sat in a CR and knew it would be my next car
2010 I purchased a car for my wife
2011 comes around, I've finally parted out my del sol, Im 2 weeks away from being ready to buy a CR. Wife gets in a total loss, so now I have 0 vehicles. Buy two new Kia's instead, as I couldn't get a personal loan and a dealership loan. But I could buy two new cars from a dealership lol.

Fast forward to 2015, my Kia had its first Engine failure. Over the next two years it would loose 4 engines in 22k miles, and I'd be out of my own vehicle 197 days in a calendar year, and 92 days the following year. It was time to buy an s2000.

I Foundd one, wife bought it for me(I guess as payback for the other three I got her over the years).

And now I still have a daily driver. But I hate driving almost any other car. The S is like an extension of your body that meets the road, it just has such good feedback. It talks to you without saying a word.

I can't explain the S. But I don't think I need to. Most people that own it probably hear it's voice as well.

And now I sound like loony with a silent talking car..back to the garage I go...

I was sold on the S2K the first time I saw one back in 1999 when I went to a Honda dealership for something for my '98 Civic EX. Of course they had a GPW on display & I immediately walked up to check it out. The first time I actually got to drive one was my friends 2004 Suzuka Blue with the matching blue interior which had about 100k mi at the time in 2011. The one thing I remember was how awesome the shifter was to row through the gears. Now onto mine that I purchased about 3wks ago which is MY06 Silverstone Metallic w/46,794mi at the time of purchase, now it has right under 48k mi because of the 1k mi drive home from where the car was purchased. The last 100mi of the first day driving home was through the backwoods of GA coming off I-75 to get to my friends house that I was spending the night at so I didn't have to drive straight home, very smart decision to do that. I literally could not have planned a better first day of ownership driving with the top down driving on backwoods country roads with the top down. Since getting home with the car it immediately went to the shop for a valve adjustment which was followed by a full detail which included CQPro ceramic coating, it spent 1.5 wks in the detail shop & I just got it back yesterday morning. I've bought a lot of parts already for the car in the short time of ownership, there were deals that were too good to pass up & made the decision to purchase the parts now because they will not have to be replaced later on except for the exhaust which will be changed later on. I plan on keeping the S2K for the entirety of my existence on this planet, look at how long I owned the Civic Si which was 13yrs 6months & 6days. During my time of owning the Civic I met lots of people & some of them I can call my friends which I don't use the F word flippantly. I joined S2KI back in 2010 due to the person I was dating at the time because she owned an S2K. I'm glad I did join back then because now I have my own & in the short time I've had the pleasure calling myself an S2K owner has been fun even with half of the time it has been in the shop getting cleaned up.

My apologies for the long read

When I see a thread titled "Driving the S2000", there are a few things that come to mind. Some involve the car itself and some involve the environment I seek out when driving the car. Ultimately I want my S2000 driving experience to include a number of things to make it perfect.

- Top-down
- A road with enough curves and elevation changes to keep things interesting
- In addition that road is free enough of congestion that it allows me to play around in the upper-end of the engine's RPM range
- Ideally a fair amount of shifting should be needed to stay in that range.

The thing is, for me driving on roads like these while maintaining my focus can be somewhat fatiguing mentally. So finding a route that links together a number of segments of road like this while providing some more relaxing, beautiful stretches to enjoy between the more demanding segments it what makes for a great overall day of driving in the S2000 for me.

But different strokes and all that, I can understand how some might predominately only be interested in the kind of driving experience found at the track. Then there are those that run a hardtop on these cars year-round that are obviously looking for something different from myself as well. While others might be happy driving one of these cars while never encountering VTEC or a twisty road for that matter (be it top-up or top-down). Maybe the most interesting to think about is how this one car can click with so many different types of drivers.
