Driving school in So Cal.
After the rash of accidents in the S2K, I've been looking at driving schools in the LA Area. Wanabe and I were going to bring this up at the West LA meet, but I thought I'd run it by here too.
I talked to a buddy of mine that's a Beverly Hills cop. He got me in touch with their training officer and he recommended a course given by the San Bernardino Sherriff's office. It's an advanced defensive driving course. It lasts 8 hours (given on Saturdays) and involved 2 hours of class time and 6 hours of driving time, where you practive 4 driving techniques. They have a skid pad there that simulates black ice. You drive their cars. They have a variety of cars, many of which are police cars.

on the left hand menu, click on courses. On the dropdown menu, click on General Public Courses Only. The class is called advanced defensive driving.
The price is $250, but they have discounts for AAA members as well as the family of law enforcement (immediate family member must be in law enforcement).
Just to guage the level of interest, reply to this thread. If we get a big enough group, we can schedule a weekend all to ourselves.

I'd be at least interested in finding out some more information. I'm almost more inclined to spend the money on a program that allows me to take my car out around a track to learn how to drive my car.
Silver,
I actually want to learn how to control the car before I take it out onto a track. I'm looking into a couple of track courses too, but wanted to take the driving course first.
Da Hapa,
The next class date available is June 23. How long does the GMAT class take??
You know it's going to be hot out in San Bernardino during that time.

If you are interested in learning car control, the local SCCA chapter will be holding an autocross school on June 2-3. The site will most likely be MCAS El Toro near Irvine. Go to http://www.solo2.com for more details.
I'd definitely be interested if it's within 60 miles or so of Orange County. As confident as I am with my driving skills, I figure it can't hurt to get some more experience -- besides it'd be fun to go with a group of S2Kers of course.
