Driving school in So Cal.
I know this isn't what you are asking about, but the Bob Bondurant four day Grand Prix course is worth every penny!
My dad and I went last year in Phoenix. Four days at Firebird. The first two are in modified Mustangs and the last two are in open wheel Formula Fords. The course is a great learning experience that starts out slowly and builds up to the fast stuff.
Very professional and at a pace any driver can live with. While the course is about $1,000 a day, you will never forget it. You can drive your own car on the track the last day, but you won't want to. Beating up someone elses car is the way to go!

Anyone interested in the So Cal Auto-X class has to get on a list kept by the Novice coordinator (David Avard) before the class fills up. See the message board at solo2.com for a message link to e-mail him.
It is a 2-day affair. Usually day 1 is spent working on concepts, sections (braking, slaloms, skid pad), and how events are run while day two has us work on a mini-course.

But, the auto-X school shouldn't be overlooked. There's no reason not to do both.
IMHO, doing donuts in a Crown Vic is probably highly entertaining, but getting seat time in the S2000 is probably much more rewarding.

Good Point Donut! I think this course in San Bernardino would be valuable. I am considering signing up. However, as Donut mentioned going through an oil slick will help in general. Although, I'd like to take my car out on a race track/autocrossing events and real training in my own car is more valuable for that. Although, as I mentioned before I am not ruling out signing up for this San Bernardino course. Please keep us informed and thank you for posting this!
There is also tracquest here in SoCal, which runs days at Willow Springs and Buttonwillow and Thunderhill. You use your own car and they supply intstructor/co-drivers etc. I did a run with the Porsche/Audi guys over Angeles Crest last year and Todd Serota, who runs tracquest brought along his modded yellow 996 Cab, which was subsequently the cover car on "Excellence" mag. It's pretty cost effective. I've yet to do it buy will if some other S2k's are up for it.
