Dry Carbon High Quality and Lightweight.
There is a market out there for dry carbon, lightweight parts and was curious about the s2ki community on their thoughts were about paying good money for lightweight high quality parts. There is a shop here in Atlanta that makes dry carbon parts for race cars and stand behind their product 100%. The only downfall to these parts is to pay for the tooling. And it is not a production type atmosphere. They don't make 10 at once because that is one helluva charge for any carbon fiber parts. When looking at Bulletproof's website and never understood how come it was so much money for those c-west parts. These guys don't really make parts for looks. They are hardcore enthusiasts and can make parts for functionality that include super lightweight hoods, fenders, diffusers, spoilers for a faster, lighter vehicle. Because we all know that the s2000 is a well-tuned vehicle. That if you wanted a faster ride the best bet is FI. The next best is making it lighter. Remove unwanted parts and such. Or perhaps replace parts with Carbon Fiber. This stuff is strong enough to be stood on. Please only serious enthusiasts reply to poll and thread.
Well I think carbon fiber is way to way to expensive in the first place. So right of the bat I woluldn't pay more then 6 maybe even 700 dollars for a very high quality part. Hood in general. I mean for some upgraded fiberglass your paying 3 even 4 times the price of fiberglass. I mean I know it's a bit lighter and alot stronger but damm look at the differance in pricing between to companys that make quality carbon hoods. Fiber image very strong, good quality, and relatively priced. Now lets say Top secret also a good quality, pretty strong, and comes with the most Bullsh_t price I have ever seen. I guess when it comes down to it why do we have to pay so damm much for something that is pretty easy to form and munipulate and comes at a cheap cost to companys in bulk. I once heard from a good source that making a fiber image hood cost them less then 85 dollars. Now this may not be true but if it is then I would hate to know how much it cost to make a top secret hood. Sorry for such a long post but thats just my 2cents

You have a good point. I don't know the cost and such behind doing this process. But the reason behind this is that Dry Carbon is amazingly light. If there are people that really want more from there car it would be to make it lighter, second would be to add FI.
I am also not a huge fan of the stuff but was curious. And still want more input.

The majority of the parts you can get in dry carbon fiber for the s2k don't help that much. The trunk and hood are already light. I think you save like 10lbs from each and cost about $500 each. Your better off getting a light weight battery saves 15lbs for $70 and wheels.
Dry carbon is not really worth it for most people, as you stated. Dry carbon is a totally different process then reg carbon. Its thicker and stronger then the reg CF as well. I doubt that unless your trying to shave off very few lbs to try and get the car as light as possible that you would ever see the benefit. Also from what I understand it's also harder to work with.

I have visited this company with Jeff here in Atlanta as I have been searching for a consistant shop to do our new projects. I wish I can find a company that sells hoods for $85.00 I would buy 50 of them right now
If a hood was produced weight would be apx 5-6 lbs. perfect fitting and strong enough for a average person to stand on. Cost ifor tooling is high on parts like this, as well as a diffuser I have been planning to make for lightweight function for the S2000 ... again there is a high cost factor
