It would be a stretch, however, I think if we were to augment the front wheels with electric drive motors, we'd do it. Imagine what a great steam roller we'd have!

A point I'm surprised no one has brought up is that tyres are pneumatic. That is, they are inflated to a certain pressure and deform to the road surface. So having a wider tyre (or 'duallies') doesn't give you more contact area, it just changes the shape of it. A wide tyre has a short wide patch. A thin tyre has a long narrow patch.

Also, the idea of extending the wheel width within the car is not possible or practical. This car has independant suspension with double A-arms at each corner not a live rear axles like a dragster or hot rod. Even if it were possible by adding width under the car you are moving the center traction point of the rear wheels inwards. Handling would be hopeless.

I must say that I do think this is one of the more 'out there' questions I have seen in my 4 years here. Not only is it detrimental to performance for all the reasons listed it would also be a visual abomination.
