Default ECU upgrade

Hey guys. I would like to upgrade my ECU. Who has the best deal and the most gains? Is it even worth the time and money? Thanks

Spoon and Mugen both make upgraded ECU's, but they are pretty expensive. If you're looking to go a cheaper route, you could get a 02-03 ECU or a VAFC.

WHat are the gains of putting a 02+ ECU on a 01?

Mostly mid range improvements. No real top end power.

You will have to have your keys reprogrammed

Cleaned up fuel maps that don't run quite as rich, people claim a 5 hp increase on the dyno.

there's also the aem EMS. That'll let you program in whatever you want.

Actually didn't someone on the board put an ap1 ecu in an ap2 and showed an hp loss? I'm pretty sure that was the case.

I recently swapped out my 00 ecu for an 02. The biggest difference i noticed was drivability in stop in go traffic. Most of my commute is done stuck behind SUVs and starting from a dead stop is alot easier. The car doesn't buck like it did before below 2500 rpm. My top end feels a little stronger ( might just be in my head). The total cost for me was under 250 bucks so it was well worth it.
