I sure have a lot of fun and enjoyment with the car, I know it's accelerating the eventual demise of the engine, but I've driven as spiritedly and as extensively as I had time to... and I'm at 37k miles after 5 years.

If the Honda lasts 70k miles, that'll be 10 years and I wouldn't be expecting much residual value....

That being said, I set money aside to buy a new engine if need be... if that happens, then I'll keep the car for another 10 years!

If I blow an engine and upgrade the car, it'd be cheaper to replace it and upgrade it than to trade up for an Exige S or GT3.

I'd do:
Engine replacement: $7k
Tranny swap for AP2: $2k
Mooncraft hardtop: $4k
Cover seats and interior in Alcantara: $2k
Sell Comptech SC for Inline Pro high boost setup:$3k out of pocket
Finally get around to installing the Racelogic Traction Control....

This really is one of the most enjoyable cars to drive. There's something to be said about a little "rawness" in the day as a great stress reliever.
I actually plan on keeping my car, and just consider the money I spend on it to be a total loss ("fun money"). Like Modifry, if I ever manage to wear out the engine, I'll just overhaul it or replace it with a new one. Anything breaks, I'll get it fixed. I routinely have the paintless dent repair shop go over the car every few months so it stays new looking, and in 10 years I expect it to be just as "new" (in terms of the cars condition) as our 1990 Miata is right now.

LOL, I'll probably die of old age before I wear out either the Miata or the Honda.

Right now I'm scheduled to rollover 100,000 miles when I'm 74!

Awesome post!

Though a lot of this is "common sense" to some drivers, I don't think this information being stickied would be a bad idea.

Some of the moderators are already working on a new forum for noobs, and I think they're going to include a lot of this kind if stuff.

Some cars hold up better when driven conservatively, and some cars (older Ferrari's come to mind) will give fewer problems if they are driven hard on a regular basis (because they tend to foul out and run poorly when driven conservatively). Our cars can be driven and enjoyed either way, which is one of the things I find so appealing. Honda gave the car a dual personality so it could server multiple roles well (and of course, because they could ).

why all this bickering?

OP was trying to get some 'love' by saying his s2 was fubar because of unknown reasons. By just reading the first post I thought he got a bad deal on an s2, little be known he screwed himself up by driving the way he does.

I don't know as much as others bout cars but I do know not to drive it the way he does. OP just wanted sympathy from fellow s2kers for his blown engine which he cause.

Hes not even here to defend himself. So lets stop all this hate and love.. and bend him over and do him like a dragon

I feel sorry for the people who obviously don't know what this car was designed for, but I'm not going to argue with 'em.
Are you saying I don't know what the car was designed for?

I dont care how much you beat on your car. A stock S2000 should not throw a rod or blow up with 57k on it. Honda did not get thier reputation from cars like that. it's not like he said he has tranny problems or a blow diff. He threw a rod on a stock motor with 57k. That' BS!!!

Not really. We are frequently told that doing this or that with the car is abusive, and I think it's unfortunate that not everyone appreciates the flexabilty of the fine car they own. These cars are designed to do so many things well; Drive it like a Prelude and it's a nice sporty car. Drive it on an autocross and it is an effective and reliable weapon. It's cool that the car can do so many things so well, and it's just sad that not everyone realized how versitle (and tough) it is.

I agree, and all the fussing at the guy because some think his driving habits caused this is just wrong.

What on earth could you do to a stock car to make the engine turn a bearing, other than depriving it of sufficient clean oil at a reasonable pressure?
