Some things I forgot.

1. VTEC does not engage if oil pressure is below a certain level. I'm not sure of the exact pressure cut off point. I am also not sure if it disables the solenoid, or just doesn't have enough pressure to move the locking pins, though the first seems more realistic as a prevention of the second.

Hope this helps!

sounds familiar - is it really easy to remove and safe to do so?
Very easy and safe to do. Have a good Phillips head screw driver and take caution not to lose the o-ring (if there is one under it, I don

regarding the map sensor

does it need replacing? or do i have to perform the removal and tap on a regular basis?

how hard should i tap it?

Tap it hard enough with the screwdriver to unstick or reset the diaphragm. This is not a Honda recommended fix, but it has worked for several of us. I then ordered a new MAP sensor that is still uninstalled for months because it has not failed since I tapped on it.

Joe, I know you mentioned you will check your oil... I think you will find it solves the problem, w/o having to worry with the map sensor... Joe I don't think I would drive the car far if I did not see any oil on the stick as you posted previously!!

Although I agree that we should not drive the car that is low on oil, and I have seen the posts that attribute low oil level to VTEC operation, it still makes no sense to me.

It seems to me that oil level will only affect the oil pressure if the pump get starved (and that will turn on the warning light), otherwise oil pressure would be the same (although the oil may be warmer because there is less of it).

Since the VTEC valve is plumbed directly into the oil system and the operation is based upon oil pressure and an electrical switch, I don
