I think the purpose is to keep the engine from shifting from one side to the other during acceleration. You only need it on one side because the engine will only shift to one side because of the direction the engine spins.

Some cars come with shock dampeners from factory and It will also help with mount wear.

The chain was an old, inexpensive and effective way of doing this, but it wasn't a dampener, it kept the engine from shifting too much and twisting things apart
(torque).

If this particular dampener is strong enough to make a difference is another question, if it's too soft it wont do much.

As more me, I plan on getting one, I shift pretty hard and can feel the engine slopping around too much or I'll make a solid unit for autox & road racing.

I doubt it would do much in a car with only 148 lbs. of tq.

Well even though I even said it was bling I am looking at getting one, been posting in the WTB forum for a while.

I'll be able to comment on effects on the higher mileage S's because I'm at 93k right now. But more or less want it to reduce wear on the engine mounts. I want this car to last me as long as possible. Plus it looks cool and still keeps things clean looking under the hood.

I think NRG is making some less expensive dampers than the other brands. Might want to check them out if you're interested.

The only improvement I've heard of is a less shaky shifter and smoother shifting in general.
Yes your right in this respect, and it's the only reason to get one IMO... It's more piece of mind knowing your shifter will go where you are trying to send it. Trust me rebuilting you head due to an accidental mis-shift isn't any fun.

Yeah... I happened to me once in Germany, and oh god is that expensive to repair here!
