I knew this was coming from the time I saw the thread title.

Just use the Honda filter and follow the service manual directions, folks. Please.

 

Possibility when they tightened the filter they kinked it or damaged it with a filter wrench? Those are about as thin as Honda sheetmetal/fenders.

 

What a mess...glad you came out of it relatively well. And your experience provided a valuable lesson for others.

 

is this the purolator "pure one" filter?

 

Makes me think a fire extinguisher in the car might be a good idea, how many people carry one?

 

I am glad you had the quick sense to shut the engine off quickly! The longer it would have ran, the more oil you would have lost and the engine would have been FUBAR!

Do you have pictures of the bad filter? I'd be curious to see where it failed. Also it's worth sending purolator a letter, it's an outside possibility that they will stand behind the filter, and maybe cover the deductable... Good Luck
