Default Engine mileage ?

A few years back I purchased a complete driveline from a wrecked 2003 for a transplant into another project. As it turns out, I don't think that I will be using it and I want to see what it is worth. There is one small problem though, I don't know what the mileage is. Is there any other way beside CarFax that will tell me the mileage?

The car was totalled, but since the owner didn't have coverage it was never reported to the insurance company. CarFax still shows him as the owner today although it does show the accident years ago.

Any ideas????

^lol, if you take it to an expeirienced shop and they open it up then maybe they can tell if it has less than 150,000 on it or more. nothing they can do will tell you cause engine wear depends on who drove it and how hard and maybe it ran rich or lean, just too many variables.

Actually I was more concerned with it having very low mileage which would impact the value in a good way. I don't have the CarFax in front of me, but the car was a 2003 that sold new in Feb of '03 with 59 miles on it. The car was sold to the second owner mid way thru the year and then totalled in november of '03. No mileage was recorded for either event(sale or crash) so the car was destroyed 10 months into its life. Tragic. So, in that the car came from Middletown NY and not from a warm climate where it was more likely to have been driven more often, I'm hopeing for ultra-low mileage and big $$$.

Basically they are saying 150k miles because it's almost impossible to tell, the only way to tell would be how much wear it has experienced, and the only way you tell that is if it has a lot of wear it's been driven a lot.

It's not going to be worth big money even if really low miles. Sitting around for 6 years and all. I would say it will be worth about 2 grand.

Yes it has been sitting on a shelf here at the raceshop waiting to be used in a Lotus 7 replica, but I'm going a different route with the engine.

The cylinders were oiled when I got it and I have turned the crank regularly ever since. It is also spotlessly clean which leads me to believe the mileage is hopefully low.

I am going to attempt to get a police report from the incident and see if there might be mileage on it. Long shot but who knows.

Thanks for the replies. I will be advertising it complete as pulled from the car with the intake, exhaust header, AP-1 flywheel/clutch, wiring harness and ECU.
