Default Engine Oil Again. : D

okay guys, I know this topic have been covered numerous times. Either I am dumb, or just don't know how to use this site properly. I couldn't find the info I wanted:

I drove my car 700km or so, I check my engine oil and it only have 2X left.
Where there suppose to be 5X for a full tank.

I know I am not suppose to change oil till at least 1500. So if my engine oil drop below the low line "0X" what should I do? Should I fill up now? and if so, with what oil?

Thanks

I add Honda (Mobil) 10W-30 regular engine oil to bring it back to 5 X.

it is better to make sure the engine oil level is full when your car is in the break in.

You can add any Brand name 10W30 oil. You dont need to use Ginuine Honda Oil. Just top it up until its full. Make sure you check it at least every second fill up....enjoy!

Cold??

No where in the manual it states to check the oil cold....I have never heard nor read such a thing. The best time to check your oil is after a fillup at the gas station and the engine is warm. Please explain why you want to check cold? If you check cold you WILL have an incorrect reading and may have less oil then you need. Oil must be checked while warm and oil is still sitting up top in the engine..You will find that if you check your oil when warm(reccomended) and then check cold. Cold will give you a higher reading than warm. This is not good.

Notice that on the link that Tug provided it says when it is warm and after it has been sitting for a few minutes. I would think that the purpose of letting it set for a few minutes is specifically to let the oil drain out of the head before measuring it. If you are topping off based on a reading that you get immediately after shutting off the engine, then you might be putting too much oil in it. Don't know for sure, but it could be.

Dallas, you are 100% correct......That is why the best time is when you fill up. Turn off your engine, let the oil drain down, fill up your gas tank and then check the oil...Simple..

As for the topping up you are also right...checking the oil after turning off the engine will give you a lower reading than actual. The complete opposite goes for cold. Cold reading will give you a higher reading than actual...

A cold reading will give you a higher reading because all of the oil drains down to the bottom. No oil stays up top. The dip stick is calibrated to show a true reading when the engine is warm and some oil is still left up top.
