Default Engine problem---help please!

Hey all,

Ok here is my problem. I noticed this problem twice in bumper to bumper traffic. When the car is rolling at 7 mph and the revs are at 1.5 - 2K it hesitates BADLY and starts to buck when I hit the gas. Is it the map sensor? Please give me some advice!

Thanks a bunch!
Bobby

I don't mean to sound like an old fart at 37, but are you guys who are experiencing this problem new to cars with manual transmissions? Or are you new to driving period?

In my experience, ANY stick-shift car does not like to be under 2000 RPM unless it's idling. If you're in heavy traffic, and the tach starts to fall below two grand, push in the clutch. If you give the engine gas when it's below 2000 it will buck because that's the nature of the high-RPM beast.

Maybe it's different if you're driving a torque monster like a Corvette, but my knowledge comes from small displacement four-bangers only, anyone else have different experience?

Another "old guy" here. The main problem is in your foot, not the map sensor. Push in the clutch, release slowly as you depress throttle; it works every time. I find this problem can be especially acute when driving slowly through a parking lot and going over one of those damn speed bumps.

Many times when caught in slow traffic, I let the car idle. In first gear on level ground it will do 4 mph @ 1000 rpm; in second it will do 7 mph, and in third it will do 9 mph.

However, if you wish to get going from this position, either slip the clutch and moderate the gas --- or put your foot to the floor; anywhere in between, there is not enough rpm to overcome the lack of torque, and it sounds and acts like the old "Indy" cars getting out of the pits during a test day.

Check out the thread below for more info on the "stumbling / stalling / bucking / hesitating / jerking / rodeo bull riding / makes-you-look-like-you-can't-drive-a-stick characteristic of the S2000

HWangTKD,

Don't be put off by the comments, assuming you are not letting the idle drop too low I agree with you as I have experienced exactly the same problem. In addition I had a further problem where when I accelerated off in first it would start to miss just like hitting the rev limiter. This happened regularly for about two weeks then for some other reason has stopped and (touch wood) hasn't come back now for over 4 months.

Everyone here in Oz said exactly the same thing about me, except that I had my neighbour as witness and he felt the bucking and fully agred that it wasn't my driving.

When I took it to the service to get it looked at, would you believe they couldn't get it to occur then cleared the ECU without noting the readings even though they admitted that it had recorded some....

Bottom line, no answer what caused it but it has dissapeared on my car.

I am experiencing this problem also. This thread was pointed out to me after I started an additional one:

If anyone is interesting in further contributing, I would love to have additional feedback.

Thanks!
