Someone told me that the engine in the s2000 is a Lotus design built for the Honda. Any truth to this or is it Honda all the way.
Let me guess... salesman at a Honda dealer?

Reminds me of the Toyota salesman who told me the MR-2 (Spyder) was a "gift" from Porsche since Toyota "bailed them out," or something like that.

Well, you can't trust advice from salesmen anyway. I've personally been told by one salesman that the M3 I was buying had "special run flat tires" (it does not). I heard another salesman tell a customer who drove onto the lot in an M coupe that he wouldn't get much for a trade in towards an M3 because "these cars are more rare" (not many BMWs are more rare than an M coupe) and I heard a salesman at Best Buy tell a customer to buy the extended warranty for their plasma screen because it would cover those "costly plasma exchanges and refills".

Thanks for clearing that myth and this guy is a locksmith who use to build engines that told me when I opened the hood. He did do a great job on cutting and programing a new factory key that I bought from Honda parts unlimited. $109 for the key and $60 for cut and program. Thanks Iradier310

Honda is the largest engine manufacturer in the world.

They don't need Lotus to source an engine for a car that was basically a 50th birthday present to its customers.

actually the S2000 motor is a leftover Vega mill from the 70s.

I was the Northwest service rep for Lotus west in 1996-9 for the disaster that was the Esprit, a Vauxhall block recast in aluminum with a 4 valve head.
Before that a lotus was a Ford Cortina block (think pinto) with a bicycle chain driving a twin cam crap head cast in someone's old cat box with the turds barely cleaned out.
I did cut two old lotus heads in half from the Jensen Healey lotus elite disaster to make the first Subaru 4 cam at WWU in 1979, so I have a bit of Lotus lore.

No way lotus had anything to do with the S2000 engine. They bought engines from Cosworth and others and tried to build engines using others parts, they never really built there own engines ever!

The best lotus engine was lucky to get 50-90,000 miles with only minor rebuilds if left stock.
Blown S2K engines do run at 400 to 600 HP stock, no "Lotus" ever did that.

Always did like those early Lotus F1 cars. With Ford-Cosworth engine.

While looking on YouTube for POV track videos, saw this gem. Top Gear clip of Lewis Hamilton driving Ayrton Senna's Honda powered McLaren MP4/4. That car had very nice, clean lines. Anyhow, sorry if this has already been posted.
