Radar detecters can only tell you that you've just been hit by laser. Laser is always instant-on so by the time you know you've been hit, they know that you're speeding. I'm not sure of the exact reason why, but you can't detect laser when other cars are being hit like you can with radar, you have to be hit to see it.
