I thought this was true too but I was recently playing around with my headlights with the car in my garage (after installing my clear side markers). I flashed my lights by pulling the headlight stalk towards me and I could have sworn that the HIDs flashed with the highbeams. From the driver's seat the light seemed too white for just the highbeams alone. Plus I also heard a faint buzz, with each flash, that I noticed only occured while the headlights were on.

I need to verify this by having my wife flash the lights while I actually look at them.

The HID's can be flashed, but they're nowhere near proper operating temperature or brightness. You really need normal incandescent bulbs for high beams.

All the riceboys around here use PIAA bulbs. Anyone tried those?

Oh, sorry. Yeah, put super bright 100W whitelight H1 bulbs in and you'll be able to piss off even more people.

Im using Raybrigs as my H1 and i ll tell you, they work amazing. they also have a few different color hues that you can go with and believe it or not, as bright as they are, they seem softer on the eyes to oncomming traffic. the canyons around my house are pitch black and require me to drive with my high beams on. my car is a MY02 and i know my headlights are WAY lower then the previous models. honda really did change the angles of these lights from previous years. i have had no problems with this set up. keep in mind though that its not the intensity of the light that is the problem, its the projection angle from our lenses. the angle is so acute that any little bump we go over makes it look like we are high beaming. you can aim your lights as far down as possible and it will still piss people off. our cars are bad when it comes to this issue, but still nothing compared to a bmw M5. that car has a similiar headlight design except the car is obviously a couple feet higher. try driving in front of or at one of those and you ll understand what i mean.

Ugh! BMW X5 Xenon (or Bi-Xenon, whatever) headlamps are vicious. They go right behind you and just have your eyes irradiated by them. They are so high up and so bright. I'm not lucky enough to get HID from the factory, but I do recommend Sylvania Silverstar superwhite bulbs. They have a higher K rating than all other ones and are close to HID themselves. In my teg I am doing a 9005 (highbeam) to 9004(regular) conversion because the highbeam doesnt have a capped front, so you get more light. My mom has a lot of Sylvania bulbs around the house, I think they are a subsidiary of GE. I looked into it and these Silverstars really seem the best. You might try those instead of PIAA...

Trust me I know about the X5 lights. There are easily 20 or so in the surrounding neighborhood + a uncountabe amount of th X4.4's. I decided to go with the 110 rallys when I do the head light clearing in the next month or so. Happened again on the way home, this time a jeep Cherreke. (sp) I am getting really tired of this right about now.

I've wanted some different High-Beam bulbs forever, but someone scared me off of the subject some time ago. Something about the wiring not being able to handle 100W bulbs or something, some "you're gonna' set your car a-flame like that" type of stuff, anyone know if this is true?
