Default Ever Drive with Hood OFF?

Since people drive with vented hood for cooling down engine compartment,, anyone every drive with hood off? Is it illegal? I saw someone driving with hood off and it kinda look funny(but that's not the point) Anyone done this? notice difference in performance?

I don't think its illegal, since my friend drives a 68 Mustang with a blower sticking up almost as high as the roofline, and he drives it without a hood all the time, and has even rolled by cops. no legality problems that I am aware of.

but running without a hood would cause a LOT of drag (as if the CD is not high enough already ), and would really slow the car down at high speeds.

I also think the cooling effect would not be as significant as a vented hood, since there would be so much wind turbulence around there, that the hot air would have no place to go, and stay where it is. whereas vented hoods are designed to suck the hot air out in a way, by creating a vacuum under the vents as air passes over them at high speeds.

just my .02

oh yeah,, one thing I noticed while driving.. You ever notice that Some american muscle cars don't have hood right, or they got that big ram air thinggy on their hood popping out. When people see those kinda cars, they don't really mind but y is it that when japanese cars with no hood get so much attention?(When I saw the car with no hood, people were looking at him like he was crazy) Also y is it that cops pull japanese cars with loud exhaust but they ususally don't pull over Harley Davidson motorcycles and cameros with Loudass exhaust? Anyone know?

I am trying to imagine something more idiotic than driving an S2000 with the hood off for any reason except MAYBE what Mingster mentioned. And y'know what? I can't!

A '32 Ford street rod looks cool without a hood....but that would be about it.

I wouldn't do it just for the dirt flying into the engine bay.

This question reminded me of a car I saw at the gym. There is a highly modified Eclipse that parks at my gym. The last time I saw it, it didn't have the front bumper, hood, nor both side front fenders on the car. I was wondering how he was able to drive the car on the road with all that stuff missing.
