Everyone knows the S sucks in snow...but I almost lost mine today to an oversight.

The snow wasn't sticking on the asphalt road next to my work, so I didn't bail out of work early. Well, my commute home goes from Asphalt to concrete and I almost lost Annie-May forever. I pulled out of a light and started a turn (next to a lake no less) well, since the concrete is light in color, it doesn't absorb as much heat during the day and so it was very very slick. Not to mention it is not as coarse as asphalt. Well, my back end slid out next to me and I had to depress the clutch to regain any stability. Drove home from there going 25 (in a 45) with the flashers on.

BE WARNED !!!!! Overpasses have the same effect!!!!!!!!!!

The S is just fine in the snow...it's the OEM tires that suck (or any high performance tire). Put a set of snows on it and you won't have a problem.

You are right. I have the Yokohama ES 100's. The tread is exactly like the OEM's...... God Awful.

I stayed my S02 a$$ at home.

Missed work today but as long as I don't miss work & class tomorrow, I'm still ok. Budgetting the snow tires in for next winter.

The cost of good snow tires is about the same as my deductible... Easy choice which I'd rather pay.

North Texas has been covered in ice the past few days and nobody has snow tires down here.

It's not just the tread, it's the compound. You won't have very good traction in cold weather on dry roads either. Get the winter tires.
