Default EVO test paddles shifters against one manual

And guess which manual transmission they chose? In their own words, one of the very best - the S2000.

A quote "It immediately highlights the lack of physical involvement with the other systems. . . . It has such a deliciously tight, positive, mechanical action that even the best paddle-shift feels thin and dull."

So there you have it.

(Cars tested were the Toyota MR2 SMT, Mercedes Sports Coupe Sequentronic, Ferrari 360 Modena F1, BMW M3 SMG, Gmini/QED Lotus Elise (F1 style), Mercedes-Benz AMG C32, Fiat Punto Speedgear and of course the Honda S2000.)

Wow very nice.... I guess I wasn't far off when I was thinking to myself how I could never go back to some other car after the S2K.

No doubt about that, the S2000 has the shortest shifting gearbox in any production model. Prior to that, it was the MX-5 or Miata for you folks out there.

Same type of car, I just didn't list all the manufacturer's marketing names which points to the same car at the end of the day, Eunos Roadster, Mazda MX-5, Miata ... Whatever you like to call it, still the same car at the end of the day.

It's not just the fact that the shifts are short, the feel is what counts the most. IMHO, the S2000 transmission feels better than the NSX's.

i've always dreamed of my car fitted with a sequential semi-auto transmission! after all, this thing feels so f-1.. i know there are so many of you out there that may oppose the idea of the computer doing the shifting for you, but me being a formula 1 freak and all... i think it would rock to have paddle shifting system in my s2000!! it would be an awesome option, just like the 360 modena/ modena F1!

Of course you know that quote (and article) was somewhat of a back handed compliment, right? They like the shifter but the steering/chasis is a let down, at least to them..."It immediately highlights the lack of physical involvement with the other systems"....
