Exagerating on hydrolocking?
So I've been trying to make up my mine on my car, trying to buy a aem v2 cai, but I've read so many forums on hydrolocking, is it that much of a concern? Or are people just over exagerating it? One of my friends has had a couple of different cars not s2ks but they were all dumped , he told me ther was nothing really to worry bout if you drive carefully in the rain?

You will want to get a cover for the filter for good measure: http://www.aemintakes.com/air_filter_wraps.htm
You also want to cover the holes where the water flows down the fender between the fender and the hood with tape, or the water will just drip directly on the filter (the holes are above the filter next to the headlight). You can also create a shroud over the filter using a cut up milk jug to make sure water has no way to drain onto the filter.
Other than that, as long as you don't drive through deep puddles and submerge the filter, you should be fine.

It mostly depends on where you live, and the streets you drive through. To actually hydrolock your engine your whole filter will have to be submerged under the water. Rain just hitting it won't do anything. If it rains a lot where you live and there are a lot of dips and such, don't do it because sometimes you can under estimate how deep a puddle is and drive through it, by then it's to late. It seems like it won't happen but you may be surprised how many people it happens too. If you do get the CAI just avoid driving through puddles and such and you will be fine.

You also can make a little umbrella, but again, I don't like that because things like that might fall off or something during track driving, or it might just fall off and you don't notice, and then get hyrdrolocked. Besides that, there's the usual stay away from huge puddles that you're going to have to deal with in any car with a cold air intake.

I drove through the SoCal storm with red aem cai without the splash guard thing under many times. Just drive locally when its raining really hard on the far LEFT lane because the water usually go down to the right, drive streets your familiar with, and know where there are little lakes when it rains.
