^or dont get a CAI.

If you injest less than 50cc of water, you could possibly hydrolock your car.

I hydrolocked my first S, as rain water dripped on my filter and sucked into engine. Honda was nice enough to take care of the 12,000 bill, even past warranty. Take it from me, it's not worth it.

The stock set up is a CAI, so the question is, do you want to replace it with another that is more prone to possible water damage? Why not just get a K&N FIPK?

avoid puddles. Which i do anyway. rain dripping into the filter doesnt do dick all. it needs to suck up water like if its under a river.

No Exageration, my car sat Parked at work when it rained after lunch, it poured !! When I was leaving , go to start the car and boom... HYDROLOCKED it. The tube coming off of the throttle body comes straight out and then goes directly down nad makes a 90, goes 2 feet then turns into the front bumper. The bottom section however was at a reversed angle allowing the water to get to the point of filling up the tube. This was all a result of the water flowing ONTO the filter like previous posts describe. I like the CAI and it is still on the car but in order to avoid this I park my car in a parking spot that keeps the water from getting into and staying in the intake tube.

I disagree, the water dripping onto the filter goes through the filter into the intake tube

How do you expect this thread to produce results that differ from any of the prior CAI hydrolocking threads? Have you read any of them? You'll still have a call to make one way or the other no matter how many posts you read.

You also want to cover the holes where the water flows down the fender between the fender and the hood with tape, or the water will just drip directly on the filter (the holes are above the filter next to the headlight). You can also create a shroud over the filter using a cut up milk jug to make sure water has no way to drain onto the filter.

Other than that, as long as you don't drive through deep puddles and submerge the filter, you should be fine.
+1 No problems in Houston so far. Keep in mind the nature of forum posts. Any forum site (regardless of topic) tends to make it look like problems are exaggerated as few bother to post that all is well.

I hydro-locked my Integra once with an AEM CAI.

It really doesn't take very much water at all (45.4mL is the volume of a compressed cylinder...and it will take less water than that). It's really not worth it.

I've seen multiple cars hydrolock because of a cai. It's no myth.

i think its because people are ignorant and dont use the drain valve AEM put there.

your going to have to go full throttle and submerge the filter in a big HUGE puddle of water

hydrolocking happens when people park the car and then it rains,
they dont use the drain,

you will not hydrolock your s while driving unless its raining a CRAZY unseen amount.
if your s is parked out side and it rains, unplug the plug to the drain BEFORE you start the car
and you will be fine.

and even make the umbrella for the aem v2 intake and you will not hydrolock your car.
