Default Exhaust Install

Search is down atm, but I've done a little research before and it seems the exhaust install is not overly difficult. I do have some questions on the install though:

(I will be installing an Invidia)

1. How safe is the car on 2 jack stands holding up the rear. Do I have to worry about it falling?
2. After looking at the "how to install an exhaust" FAQ, it seems I do not have all the large torque wrench the guys had in the 2 threads. Is it nessary to have a torque wrench or can I use a regular ratchet wrench and just estimate the tightness?
3. Neither my dad nor I have ever installed anything remotely close to this, people say about 1-1.5 hours for a complete beginner. Can anyone vouge for this?

I have the choice to have the local midas install it for probably 100 or so but I rather save that money and spend it on something else.

I'm basically looking for some encouraging words

Thanks

Use two jack stands with the jack underneath also. Can never have too many precautions.

edit: Can you post pics as you do it. I wanted to do my own exhaust next summer, and i'm a beginner also. I hope it works out for you, good luck

Put 2 jackstands in the back jack points. Put wooden blocks in front of the front wheels. Put the jack under the differential (you jack it by the diff anyways). If you have them ramps you drive up on, it's even better cuz you get more clearance to work with.

I've never used a torque wrench and that's mainly cuz I don't have one and I'm too cheap to get one. I've gotten along just fine.

When you're under the car, use a breaker bar to loosen bolts, try not to jerk around the bolt too much, it'll make the car start to sway. Kinda scarry in my opinion.

This is something that you can definitely do yourself. I installed mine by myself so if you have your dad help you out you will be just fine. I have ramps that I backed my car up onto at the time, before I had my car lowered, but they helped out a lot instead of having to jack up the car and use jack stands. If you are going to use jackstands though, you can jack up the car in the back at the diff and put your car on jack stands. Then get yourself some wd40 or liquid wrench and spray the bolts before trying to crack them loose. You can also spray the rubber grommets that hold the exhaust hangers. Its pretty straight forward, you only need one socket size for the three bolts on the cat, remove the stock exhaust and bolt up the new one. Good luck

Make sure that the weight of the car is mostly on the jackstands if you are going to use a another hydraulic jack for additional support. Honestly, though chocking the wheels and using good quality jackstands will be sufficient and safe.

Make sure the car is on level ground as well.
