Experienced Opinions NEEDED
"stewie" sounds more like a Subbie (sti to me...haha)
OP: Just buy an AP2, if your budget is $25k you can easily pick up any nice s2000 you want pretty much.
Just buy one and start driving, this car is pretty much troublefree any year you get. I started with a 2001, then picked up two 2005 models and all are trouble free.

Why?
Some of us like extremly firm suspensions, i.e. we don't need all sorts of creature comforts because we prefer the more pure driving experience.

Coming from a fwd car to a stiff rwd car, different driving dynamics, and the stiffer the suspension, the more easily one can spin out. All S2000s have stiff suspensions, but the OP is basically going from fwd to rwd, no tc, and wants a stiff uspension.
Good thing you replied and developed that thought because based upon your first responce I would have never thought you were talking about FWD vs RWD.
And remember, if one has driving skill, the change from FWD to RWD is not some kind of horrific difference. After 10-years of pounding around the track is a major modified CRX-Si, I found the change over to an S2000 to be rather straight forward, not that big of a deal.

If it were me I would buy the 04-05 (I dont care for DBW) and like the rear end being a little more stable. If you have you mind set on AP1 then get a MY03 it had the best consumer reveiws and fewest complaints of all the AP1's

To help you about purchasing, i can't say anything to persuade you to buy an AP1 or AP2. Drive both of them and make your decision based on that. Nothing beats the experience yourself
About snow, tires can only help so much. So even though winter tires will help, it'll be useless if there is 2ft of snow. But I live in the northeast and i even got through one winter with the stock RE050s. Got stuck once but I had it coming. If this is a major issue, you may be better off getting an AP1, and the rest of your budget on a winter beater. Hope this helps
