Default Extended Warranties?

What is the general consensus on purchasing extended warranties? I did not get the extended warranty when I bought the car because of the manufacturer warranty, but as time ticks on, and mileage mounts, I have been giving it some thought I requested a quote on line, and of course got sales person calling last night giving his sales pitch. They are: WWW. Continental Warranty.net They offer different packages..an example was 100,000 miles 6 year, $1218.00, fifty dollar deductible. I know I have read about being sure to know what is exactly covered when purchasing an extended warranty. There web site spells what is covered under there different packages. The one I looked at was the Freedom Plus package....

i think you can get an extended warranty directly from honda. not through the dealer of course, but i have seen 100k, 5 yr from honda for around $900. i believe i searched this site to find that info. for some reason, i trust honda more than the companies i have found on the web. that may be misplaced trust! good luck.

correction to my last. what i meant was you CAN get an extended warranty through the dealer, but you don't want to because they will gouge you for an extra $700-800 for the privilege of working with them.

So you call Honda of North America and request an extended warranty? How do you get a Honda warranty without dealing with a Honda dealer.

You don't have to go through "your" dealer to get the Honda factory extended warrantee. You can get it from any Honda dealer.

I bought an Odyssey minivan in 2001. I bought the 100,000 / 7 year / 0 deductible for $975. My dealer initially offered the contract for $1250. I had done some research on an Odyssey forum www.odyclub.com, and met folks that had bough the same coverage for $925. When I mentioned this little tidbit to the sales manager, you could see his shoulders drop and he came down to $975 which was close enough for me.

It's a couple of years later now and I don't know what differences they consider when pricing such a plan for the S2000 vs a minivan but I'd do some serious looking around before I'd pay $1,200 + on a 5 to 6 year extended service plan for the S2000. You never know what you'll find.

Good luck & Drive Safe,
Steve R.

I have heard a number of complaints about the hondacare warranty that you would be purchasing through any honda dealer. I did some research and recently purchased a 7yr (from warranty purchase date)/100k mi (total odo reading) with 0 deductable for about $950. I plan to keep my car for a while and wanted the piece of mind. Check them out at 1sourceautowarranty.com if you're interested.

The problem with hondacare isn't HMC, it's individual dealers that refuse warranty work claiming abuse, mods, etc. A search will show lots of discussion on this topic, and lots of opinions on Hondacare vs other warranty services.
