Is that right? Do people actually put headlights from countries where they keep left on cars here?

Headlight patterns are asymmetrical. In countries that keep right more light is directed toward the shoulder than toward the center of the road. In countries that keep left (Japan, UK) the pattern is reversed. Using a left pattern here crates an unsafe condition by not illuminating the shoulder sufficiently and directin more ligh toward oncoming traffic.

I was under the impression that only the outer clear plastic was being used, not the reflectors.

You know what is complete bullsh!t regarding headlights?~ There is some rule stating that your headlight housing must be X inches from the ground. Stating that if your car is lowered, (i know some of you guys on the board have gotten tickets for this!) you are in violation. I see no harm in having your car lowered 1-2 inches causing your headlights to drop. I only see it lowering the beam pattern of the headlights, meaning that oncoming traffic wont be affected as much.
On the other hand, what about those Focking trucks with the 12 inch lift kits to make them the wannabe monster trucks. I have never seen one of those POS wannabe monster trucks with the 12 foot lift kit get pulled over. I mean you are only raising your headlights higher which will make it more in the site of an oncoming car or a car infront of the monster truck.

Some of these rules and regulations suck A$$ regarding headlight standards!!!

Depending on the headlight design, some folks are using the whole thing...

Kenneth Tidwell of Knoxville, Tenn., wrote that he is ''bothered by drivers'' with HID lights, even though he is one of them.
This person deserves to be kicked in the teeth. I see plenty of HID lights everywhere now. They dont even bother me. The lights on some big SUV's are even brighter and more annoying. sometimes so bad that i have to fold my mirrors in when one of those things id driving behind me. (not the HID equipped X5)

A lot of these people commenting over at NHTSA seem to fit into a few groups.

1) mentally deficient and just love to hear themselves speak.
2) completely clueless but love to complain
3) confused about headlights and foglights
4) player haters
5) all of the above

Kind of sad to see so few positive comments but the ones that are there are well written and logical as opposed to the "I hate them. They suck." crowd.
