Sheesh, you guys really go for the hard way...
Go to any local shop that makes signs/graphics for outdoors and they should be able to provide you with a piece of vinyl with all-weather sticky stuff on the back. Most colors are easily matched, but if not, just paint it like you were going to do the eyelids. The cost for the vinyl shouldn't be more than $10-$15 for a small sheet, it's ultra-thin, and if you don't like it, peel it off, no residue.
