F22C missing VIN on head....
ok guys, regardless of the reason of why I'm interested, I need your help....
looking at buying an F22C (head/block) with a bill of sale, but no VIN.
Guy says its "good"
How can I check how "good" it is in terms of it not being stolen.?
Is there a serial number somewhere on the head/block that can link it to a VIN?
Cuz I will surely have issues with officials if i get pulled over and get inspected and they find a VIN missing.
It still has the Engine Serial Code after the F22C - xxxxxxxx
I need something other than...
" its prolly stolen bro"
or
" dont buy it"

Best bet since the motor is out, is to check for that green plate as EricJT7 posted.
I believe it's possible to scan the VIN from the vehicle, which I assume checks the ECU. I don't know if the VIN is programmed somehow into the block (are there electronics on new motors?)
I just remember the smog station electronically "scanning" the VIN from my Prelude.
The other serial number is not the VIN, but police are theoretically able to check to make sure it is clean. You could always tell the seller to re-apply for a VIN, replacement tags are often given for stripped ones. But seems like a sketchy history.

I called CHP and let them know the situation, the officer responded something along the lines of.....
"We would need to have the engine in person to look for hidden serial numbers that we know of to check if its stolen or not. More than likely it is stolen since its missing a VIN. If you buy it, and in fact is stolen, we keep it to return it to its owner. Dont buy it, too much hassle."
Anybody know if there are in fact "hidden serial numbers"?
