hmm come to think of it.. your idea of a 3am run sounds pretty fun! just gotta watch out for those damn metal plates and 5" high manhole covers especially south of 42nd street on bway.

A 3 a.m. run through manahattan is awesome !!! One of the interesting places to stop is the Fulton Fish Market !! You have never seen anything like it unless you have been there -- sharks hanging on scales - boxes and boxes of fish and sea scallops - all kinds of things - and come 6 a.m. - it is all gone - cleaned up - and hosed down - ready for a new day !!!

Of course some people might think there are more interesting things to do in NYC at 3 a.m. ---

But no matter what -- everyone please bear in mind that NYC has some very real and strict forfeiture laws - they are looking for reasons to take cars - which include excessive speed (more than 25 over the limit) , reckless driving , and DWI. Words to the wise !!

My hotel reservations have also been made - arrive 10/4 - depart 10/6. Incidentally - there is a small and upscale restaurant in the Fishkill area called : Harralds on Route 52 in
Stormville, NY . From its unlikely location on a country road surrounded by fields, Harralds had a nearly unprecidented run of approximately 17 consecutive years as a Mobil Five Star Restaurant . The place is too small for a group of any size (only about 12 or so tables); BUT - if anyone had a special event they wanted to celebrate that weekend - since we are going to be near there - Harralds would be an excellent place for an upscale dinner. After 17 years it was demoted to a four star restaurant. I don't think that its quality went down -- I think that the standards went up. I was last there about 2 years ago -

I want to clarify the significance of this restaurant having maintained a Mobil five star rating for 17 consecutive years. Every year Mobil Travel Guide selects restaurants from around the country for this rating. ON THE AVERAGE there are only TWELVE (12) restaurants A YEAR in the whole U.S.A. given a five star rating. For 17 years while other restaurants came and went off the five star list - Harralds remained on the list !!!!

Was really looking forward to it, but a friend of mine is getting married that weekend and I am in the wedding. Any chance of being cloned that quickly?

I am getting married 10.11.2003 so hopefully that won't be next years Fall Colors weekend.

The Newburgh NY, riverfront is being refurbished. There are now a few new restaurants right on the river. Newburgh is just over a bridge from Fishkill. The restaurants are about a 15 minute drive from the hotel.

There are 3 that I would recommend, The River Grill (steaks and seafood), Cena 2000 (Italian) and Torches (more moderately priced but food is ok, nice bar and a 5,700 gallon fishtank separating the bar from the restaurant).
