Default Fastest freeway speed for most mpg?

Lately I've been driving much less due to high gas prices. I've stopped making unnecessary trips to the store, to people's houses etc. and I've wanted to know what speed to cruise at on the freeway. Assuming the freeway is straight, no uphill/downhills, you think 65mph gets 30mpg?

Way better than 30. I've had 31 cruising over 70. The trick is to stay in 6th with windows and top up.. and if you keep the speed at 60 or below you should be able to get better than 34, but it is no fun at all.

55 mph is the standard speed for all cars to get the highest MPG(for the highway).

i usually cruise at 65, so who knows.

During our round trip from Orlando to Key West, we got over 29MPG cruising mostly between 70-80MPH. The car was packed as much as we could sweeze in.

There's no blanket rule that applies to all cars.

I remember reading about this too. It's true that different size and shape of the cars/trucks will change this optimal speed for gas milage, but I think the average is about 55MPH. I may be wrong, but I remember reading somewhere that the original speed limit of 55 was set in the early 70's during the fuel crisis to help optimize gas milage. It was not for safety.

It might be an average, but the post said that was the best speed for all cars. There's a difference. Way too many variables between different cars to say that X MPH is the best for EVERY car.

Guys, it doesn't matter what the car is, the simple rule is lowest possible speed, highest possible gear and best possible aerodynamics (i.e roof up, windows closed, a/c off).

I can cruise at 60kmh (37.5mph) in 6th and obtain quite good mileage (kilometreage) even around town.

IMO 65mph provides best milage.
