Default FCC ID?

I'm looking to get one of the keyless entry remotes aka key fobs from ebay and I was wondering what the "FCC ID" is?

Is it unique to every year model or something or are they all the same or what?

Someone suggested looking under the seat at the keyless entry brain, but there is no room to see anything.
Someone else suggested taking it to the dealer, but I don't want to mess with them over something this small.

My car is an 01' if that matters...

Thanks,
-TerminatioN

I have two fobs from a '05 model. If you think they are the same, pm me and I can give you a good price on one or both of them.

From what I remember ordering key fobs for both an 02 and 04 is that they share the same ID. You should be able to program any of them to work with your 01

If you have a remote now, you will find the FCC ID in the back. If not, you can find out from your dealer what FCC ID is compatible with your model year.

I bought a couple from eBay and one of them is actually for a CR-V or Odyssey but the FCC ID matched that of my '05 so I bought it. Now I have 3 (the maximum you can match with the car) remotes that work for my car.

The procedure for teaching the car to recognize the remotes is somewhere here in the forums. Just search.

So you guys are saying they should all be the same?

I really don't feel like messing the dealer and I don't have a remote already, so I don't know for sure what my FCC ID is.

You can take a risk and confirm with the eBay seller if the remote for sale is compatible with your model year S2K. If the seller has a record of selling Honda remotes, then you can probably trust his word. The CR-V/Odyssey remote I bought from eBay did mention in the ad that it is compatible with my '05 which I confirmed with the seller.

If you are buying more than one remote, they need to have the same FCC ID.
