Default Filling in front lip gaps.....

I took my car into the body shop to get some 3M protectant installed, and I asked the guy about filling the gaps on my Amuse style polyurethane front lip.

He told me about this stuff, similar to caulking, but used for automobliles. I think its made by PPG. Anyways, he says he can fill my gaps for like 8 bucks by running a very clean "bead" across the entire seam of the lip. He claims it will look like an OEM fitment. My car is GPW, and he guarantees this stuff won't turn yellow because its not silicone based.

Anyone heard of this? I think this is a great fix for 8 bucks. Even if the color isn't a perfect match, he says he uses the smallest bead possible, just enough to fill the gaps, so that a slight color mismatch would go virtually unoticed.

No, it blends right in as the color show through. It's like an illusion that works good . I know my pics aren't close up but you don't see gaps do you? You'll have to take my word for it.

Wasn't doubting you dude....just curious.

If the body shop doesn't come through, what kind of silicone did you use? How did you apply it?

I used outdoor (obviously) window sealing clear silicone. I taped off the area with masking tape, caulked it, smoothed it with my finger, removed tape, voilla!

I did my brother's suzuka blue lip with black caulk and it turned out great ( we did his all the way across). So we joked after that, ha ha you got big black caulk on your lip!

sounds good.

Again, if the body shop doesn't come though, i might try a white window caulking. Like you, tape it off so I only cover the required area.

My only concern would be it turning yellow over time. But I don't think I'd have the car long enough for that to happen

I applied some caulking on the gap when i had the amuse lip, it got dirty and changed into yellowish color after 1 month.

for 8 bucks its pretty cheap...id try it anyways
but HBoy's clear silicone trick seems to be a good solution
on my car the amuse replica the gap is near nonexistant....cause i installed the lip while the bumper was off the car....it helped alot in getting that tight fit
