It finally happened...got rearended
the guy agreed to pay me in cash for the price it costs a good bodyshop to buy the bumper, paint it perfectly and install it. this guy is lucky that i didnt call the cops, he would've gotten a 3-point ticket too. but this guy was very apologetic and the damamge was minimal. if the guy was an a$$hole, i woudd've called the cops for an accident report. im probably going to pocket the money and buy the hardtop i always wanted.
2157, the damage is basically a couple of deep cuts but not bad enough to break the paint. that is why you can't see the damage unless you get up close. if i had a digital camera, i would definately take pics.

Sorry about the damage.
I would recommend you have them paint the lower valance to match. It really finishes off the rear end. They shouldn't charge you anymore to do this since they will need to repaint the bumper and clear coat the whole thing anyway.

If I had to guess(without seeing your damage), you are probably looking at around $500 for that repair.

It's funny you mention the insurance piece. I have almost decided to take 500 cash (to buy a new bumper) in the event I get slightly rear ended. Do you think that is ill advised?
I am 23 so any accident (at fault or not), will practially bury me in insurance world.

Jason, I was going to ask if anyone has done this with their bumper (full paint) before I got mine done. Looks real nice. Anyone have any pics of the front bumper, fully painted? (meaning the grill/fill in area also)
Xviper,
Sorry, I was a bit ambiguous.
I meant that if I do get rear ended, I would try to avoid an insurance claim and simply ask the person (assuming he/she is reasonable) for the cash to buy a new bumper.

Rear ended by a Dodge Caravan......600 dollars...replaced rear bumper and painted... I have a Sebring.....as good as new...
But it also depends on the quality of the body shop you take it to.....but I was amazed that the damage wasnt worse.....it was a 10mph crash...I was at a standstill at a light when this lady smashed into me.....thank god I somehow kept my foot on the brake to keep myself from shooting forward into traffic.......
