Finding a corrilation?
I am bothered by these differential troubles by people. I ended up going into an empty parking lot last night. I put the car in nutral turned the car hard over quiet as a mouse. Gave some gas to keep it going. Still quiet as a mouse.
I had to try that. What I am getting at is why are so many people having troubles.....
One big question. How many differentials have gone/going and how many of those have lowered the car either by springs or coil overs.

Hey Pinky,
I actually hear a weird ringing sound when I make hard turns, like a u-turn. I was told that this was normal since we have an LSD. Now, I'm not too sure. I wonder if my differential is going bad too. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or not.

I do not think that is normal. Is there another S you can get around to listen to? I hear nothing but the hum of the engine.
I am supprised I only got one reply from this. I seriouly think there is a problem with lowering this car. Every LSD that has gone bad as far as I have seen is from people who lowered their car even an INCH!

Pinky,
There are a ton of S2000's out here in LA. I'll probably try to listen to Mingsters this weekend. I hope this isn't the start of a serious problem. By the way, my S2000 isn't lowered at all. It's stock.

Is Honda just putting in a weak differential? Like they did with the clutch? Or is it a lack of quality control....
Sorry to make a blank statement like that though it was looking like most if not all the diff. blown were lowered cars. I will soon be going in for my 30,000 mile checkup. I will definitly get my tranny/diff fluid changed at that point along with a checkup of all the other stuff.

There might be a correlation but this does not mean that there is a cause and effect mechanical issue. Lowering the car doesn't change what the diff experiences. Unless juddering or shock loads are somehow increased during very hard launches from a stop...that should be pretty obvious though. In normal driving around, tbe diff can't tell that the ride height is nonstock.
BUT.
Perhaps those who lower also tend to push the car more than average, and/or are demanding enough to notice trouble symptoms in advance. Depending upon the problem, diff noises can exist for quite some time/miles B4 failure. I remember a car survey where some folks who complained about wind noise also complained about bad paint jobs more than average. You can't really say that the thin paint caused the wind noise. This is on a car with a robotically applied (consistent) paint job. Folks who listen to the radio louder than others tend not to notice the wind noise too - does this mean that turning the radio down causes wind noise problems?
