Default Fire Damage

Hi everyone!

I'm sorry to bring up a topic of sadness, but my S2000 was the unlucky bystander of an arson incident. I parked my car on sidewalk next to some trees, and sometime during the night, some crazy person decided to light those specific trees on fire....

My car's still drivable, fortunately, but the heat caused layers of my top to come apart, a cracked front windshield, bubbling of the paint, partial melting of my turn signal, S2000 emblem, front bumper, and passenger mirror.

I haven't tried any of the functions (putting top up and down, putting passenger mirror up and down, etc.) except for moving the passenger mirror (moves but motion is limited.

Anyways, I'm going to an adjuster on Friday and if you guys could bring up any other concerns you would have in this situation. It's still kind of shocking me, so I think my brain is a bit clouded, so I would love any feedback you can give. Thanks!

Cracked Windshield

Damaged Headlamp

Partially melted bumper

Paint Bubbling

Mirror Melted

Window Seal Partially Melted

Emblem/Turn Signal partially Melted

Cant see the pictures here while im at work but depending on the year of the car id think it could be considered a total loss given the price of oem parts new and the extent of the damage? Im by no means an expert though.

Tires may have been compromised as well as anything 'visible' to the heat source such as brake lines and other non metal components. Heat can penetrate glass so if the windshield cracked it is possible interior areas can be damaged: dash, cluster, console, etc. A very thorough inspection will be needed.

I think the most important factor is how long the car was exposed to that heat. A lot of heat, for a short time, could melt paint, plastic, etc, but not get past the exterior and cause any damage to stuff farther inboard.

That it didn't catch on fire, or melt the interior, despite being a convertible, bodes well I think.

I say for each area of the car, look for the easiest thing that would melt, closest to that side where the fire was, under hood, under dash, interior, trunk, etc, and if that didn't melt, then most likely the rest of things in that area are OK too.
