Default First accident ever!

Im 20 years old and i finally experienced an accident. I was at Safewy doing my usual once a week shopping. When i came back, it seemed as if my alarm was going crazy but i stilll walked casually to my car. From far away, it looked like there was some leves on my white bumper. I got closer and i see lots of bits and pices of plastic under my car. By this time, i was somewhat in shock because i somewhat knew it was from my car. I got really close, and i see that my tail light got bashed in and the plastic cover straight shatted and spread around my car. Then i see on my bumper that the paint is totally coming off. Some parts are just extra rubber from their bumper, but a fat chunk is my bumpers body under primar etc.

Once again, throughout my three years of driving, this one bad experience had to be a hit and run. Its a good thing i got full coverage but the damn deductable is $500. I should be happy since im getting a new bumper and tail light, but its only been 4 months for me with about 4100 miles on it. Everything was still pretty much brand new.

So i want a brand new bumper from the Honda Dealership because if i brought it to a shop, i know for sure that they can not color match. Also how much is the new tail light and a prepainted bumper? As long as its under $2000, the insurance has no problem, but if its more, then the adjustor would have to come and to me thats just more of a hassle.

thanks for reading my crappy story!

A new unpainted bumper from Honda runs around $250. Add about $500 for labor and paint. Of course this is in Ohio. I'm not sure about California.

I think you should be well below $2000 for everything.

Good luck!

You may want to see if the store videos the parking lot. If yes, you should contact the police and see if they will review it for you. Do it fast because most places re-use their tapes.
A friend of mine was fortunate enough to get the tape . . . his accident was much more serious, he was actually hit as a pedestrian. The driver left but was 'caught on tape'. His promising athletic career was ended due to permenant injuries but justice was served.

I don't believe bumpers come prepainted. Your bumper will need to be sprayed to match your vehicle regardless of whether you get a new bumper or your old bumper repaired.

In any case, it will never be as good as your original bumper as body repair shops to do not have the ability to correctly add the necessary flexants to the paint to allow the bumper to bounce back without cracking after it is bent (for example, by pushing against it with your hand) .

A good body shop can make it as good as new (or even better with more correct lineup of body panels etc). A poor body shop will leave a repair that is noticable. Bumpers do not come prepainted. Just find a good body shop in your area and you should be fine as the damage sounds reasonably small and purely cosmetic.

Hopefully your repair will turn out as good as new.

I was rear ended once and keyed another time in my previous car, an Integra in a relativley rare factory color, similar to Monte Carlo Blue. The Honda dealer affiliated body shop matched it absloutely perfectly both times.

luckily you have GPW as i've seen very nice GPW matches as it is relatively easy to match

I just got my estimate from a collison center which also serves for AAA. They estimated around $750 for new right side tail lamp and paint job on the bumper. My bumper is fine, except that the paint came off. They told me that they would sand it down and re0paint (just that area) and make the color of the grand prix white and their white flush in color so that no one would notice. Now, i just have to contact my insurance claim person to tell them the estimate. After that, i think im going to drop off the car tommorow and it would take about 2 days. Which also means that my sound system setup is delayed another week or so due to some idiotic drivers.

i really hope everything can be done by this week, cause it hurts seeing my car in bad shape. not just that, but driving on the streets, everyone always has to look and instigate the problem. however, if you think about it, since it looks like someone rear-ended me, its obvious its not my fault. anywho, hope this week is over soon.
