yes it happens quite a bit.

but bottoming out entirely? its actually kinda cool, there are a few roads where I can bottom out very easily - sparks everywhere, and a few contact points on the bottom of the car scrape.

I have scraped my front spoiler on several occasions. I thought about adding some scrape pads but haven't gotten around to it. Meanwhile you can't see the scrapes anyway.

I call this "first dent syndrome". I've had it with every car I've owned. Progression of the disease is like this:
1. Prior to diagnosable symptom (first dent) the patient develops non-specific anxiety.
2. First dent is accompained by a painful release of anger and frustration.
3. Second dent is greeted with a sense of relief (that it is not the first dent.)

After successful treatment of any dents, the appearance of symptoms will begin at 1. again and progression of the disease is similar but escalated.

I've scraped the bottom of the bumper already too, on a parking block. I can't really see it, so it doesn't really bother me too much. I usually scrape those plastic aerodynamic things in front of the wheel instead of the bumper when I go across bumps. Guess the bump you went across must've been pretty bad.
