First drive in an S2000 - slightly disappointing..
i will say this:
My AP1 felt more exciting to drive than my AP2 does, when they were both stock.
But, now that my AP2 has an AP1 clutch slave cylinder, clutch/flywheel, exhaust, header, tune and coilovers...my god, has this car come alive!
if the high rpms, lack of straight line power and lack of torque bothers you...this may be the wrong car...
if you lived near me...id let you take my s2k for a spin and you would most likely have a change of heart.

i'm wondering, was the engine warmed up? i test drove 2 separate s2000s before i bought mine, the engine was warmed up on one while it was still cold in the other. the one that was warm was a rocket as soon as i hit vtec. the cold one (which i ended up buying!) felt slow and wouldn't let me rev past 7000. i didn't realize till after i bought it that the thing wouldn't go into vtec and wouldn't rev high unless i warmed it up. the tranny being cold could affect the shift feel as well. but if you drove it on a freeway i guess it makes it not likely that it was cold.
anyway i'm pretty happy with my purchase and it definitely doesn't feel slow to me, but my previous car was bone stock civic dx (still dd it) so that my affect how i perceive it. it does rev high on the freeway but i'm getting used to it.

Test driving a couple modded or even slightly modded S2000's might help you in your decision. My S2000 just has a CAI, header, and straight piped exhaust. It has a slight "burble" when idling. But once it gets into the higher rpms and hits VTEC crossover, it screams. The audibles of an S2000, makes the driving experience that much better.

I've averaged 28 MPG so far. I've gotten 1 tank as high as 29, and I usually do 70-75 MPH on the highway. The fuel economy is actually half decent despite the high revs while cruising.
The things I would like to improve about the S:
-Taller 6th gear to reduce rpm at cruising speeds, increase fuel economy, and cut back on exhaust noise
-offer heated seats
-offer a true glovebox

im not sure if a longer 6th gear would work in this car. At a lower rpm im not sure the car would make enough power to cruise along comfortably. lower rpm but higher throttle position.
One of the first things I noticed when switching from an Ap1 to an Ap2, was where that extra torque paid off at lower rpms. I used to have to downshift to 5th on my Ap1 if in traffic and being forced to cruise at 45-50mph. Not the case with the Ap2.
Just my .02
The CRs top speed needs to be moved to 180mph imo. Forced induction + taller 6th gear. It'll probably still beat the durability of exotic sports. Why such a high top speed if you don't need it? Because its a sports car!

because i'm a noob and it was a test drive.

I think it would. Now I agree with you, if only talking about the AP1,. Trying to cruise at 45-50mph in 6th when required in traffic or on a single lane road, it was lagging badly, and the car didn't like it. The AP2 just moves so much nicer cruising on a rural road at 50mph. at 70-75mph, there is more then enough power for cruising, so a few hundred rpm's lower in 6th would be nice on highway road trips, for gas mileage, and especially for noise.
