Honda says 3750. Oil companies say 3000. Manual says not to replace original factory oil too early as it contains a break in related additive.

When should I get my first oil change (hit 3000 miles yesterday) and should I switch to synthetic or not?? If I should what is the best brand to switch to?

I realize that all this info is probably available in bits and pieces through the search function. I am just getting too lazy - my apologies for not searching.

Thanks - any and all advice is appreciated.

I'd do it now (or real soon) but don't go synthetic till the next oil change (@ 6000 mi.) or until it stops using oil, whichever comes last.

I did my first oil change at 3801 to Mobil 1 5W30 Tri-Synthetic and my second oil change at 7498. Used a K&N filter. I have zero problems and got 28 miles to the gallon going home from Asheville in April.

I plan on doing my first oil change at about 5000 miles. Going to use regular oil for first change then at 8000 miles change to Mobile 1. So far with 3500 miles my oil has only gone down about 2 notches so still have not had to add any. Also oil still looks clean, even though this is not much of a indicator of the condition. I VTEC a few times a week, vary my rpms, cruse around 3000 to 4000 rpms and never drive hard, until the engine is warmed up.

7000 is for normal conditions. In real life, NO one drives in normal conditions. Thats is what I have been told with my last two hondas. Change the oil at or near 3750.

Gonna go to Mobil 1 Tri Synth at 3750. Done it with all my other V-tec's and it has never done anything but, good.

per the s2000 service manual:

"every 7,500 miles or 12 months (normal conditions)
every 3,750 miles or 6 months (severe conditions)"

they do not define severe conditions, but others have posted that it is driving in dust (off road... yeah, right!), regularly in stop and go driving, etc.

we concluded that since the car was made to vtec, vtecing does not count as severe conditions.

i vtec daily and will change my oil after about 10 months (around 4,000- 4,500 miles).

the service manual does not discuss treating the first oil change differently from others...
