Default first oil change

Im thinking about doing my first oil change soon and was wondering when most
guys performed theirs, I was told by the dealer to do it at 3,500 miles. In the past with all my other new cars,
I always changed it at 1000 miles thinking it was best to get the contaminants from
engine breakin ,out as soon as possible, to prevent damage. I just love this car and want to do whats best for long term ownership since I never plan on selling it.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Also my dealer claims that honda does not put any extra additives in the oil to assist breakin of the engine. Every time I run
the S it feels better and better and Im still waiting to V-tec and go wot, the car is
amazing and has me in awe. Happy v-tecing!

leave the factory oil in at least 5000 miles. there are special addatives such as moly and other things that help break the engine in properly. while it won't cause damage if you change it too soon, you *can* shorten engine life and cause the parts not to breakin and seat properly.

the old "change it after 1000 miles" mantra is severely outdating, considering today's manufacturing processes.

This is not exactly true. factory oil has been tested and DOES contain high counts of moly and other such addatives to assist breakin.

I would look into the oil journals posted by road rage on this one. I followed his recommendations and changed my oil at 3750 miles. I used regular old Chevron oil (4.5 quarts) and added a 15 oz. bottle of Valvloline Maxlife additive. From what I have read, it has a Moly count very similar to the Honda factory break-in fill.

I also drive around 100 miles per day in stop and go driving, so I am going by the Honda severe oil change schedule. Enjoy your car.

hmmm why not listen to Honda??? they seem to know a lot about the vehicle....i think they suggest 3750 or 7500 depending on how you drive.
