Default First S2K drive today....

I'm sure you vets are tired of hearing this, I was out driving my BMW Z3 today and saw a beautiful white S2K at a dealer. I stopped and drove it and was way impressed... I couldn't get a reasonable deal worked, so i had to walk away. Man it was hard. Needless to say my Z3 is for sale and I'm looking for a good used S2K. Any thing I should look for on a used car? I hope to be a regular here real soon. Cheers

Glad you enjoyed the ride.

I'm not sure what to tell you to look for other than good maintenance records and maybe a Honda certified car. IMO, these little buggers are very robust and don't present any significant issues as a used car (as long as you don't mind buying used). If you're able to meet the original owner, ask how the car was broken in and see if he/she has replaced tires, or clutches. Those can be tell tale signs of how hard the car has been driven. Keep in mind a hard driven car isn't necessarily a bad thing (when maintained properly) but that might not be your bag.

good luck.

I would honestly just go with the new one. The prices arent that much different to justify getting someone elses possibly abused car. Here is the link to a thread that also discusses the differences between te 00-01 models and the 02-03 models. They are similar cars, but there have been many improvements since 02.

man, don't buy new, it's a waste of money. Why pay $30,000 for an 03 when you can get an 02 for $26,000. To me, $4000 is a lot of money. An 02 shouldn't have over 10,000 miles on it anyway. What's 10,000 miles on a Honda?

I much rather buy new and spend the extra $. Why? You never know what happened to that car and CarFax isn't always accurate. When the person that brought my used and CRASHED 01 S2000 from the dealer that I traded it in too, little did he know that the entire rear end of the car was replaced and the entire car was repainted. The repair job was perfect, no one could tell anything happened. But it definitely didn't drive the same again. Now from what I hear, my old car has developed some problems. This certainly isn't common, but enough for me to avoid buying a used car if possible.

Besides, nothing beats the feeling of seeing your brand new car wrapped in plastic with no miles on it.

It's going to be tough, new is 33K here in Colorado Springs. Are there dealers discounting? Used '02's are about $29K. Lot's of great info from you guys so far. I like the site a lot. People are much nicer than on the BMW boards....

There are a lot of people out there buying new '03s for $30,000 and less. You just have to look around. I paid 32 last fall, but they have come down a lot. If you buy used, you should be able to get one for a lot less than 29. Good luck.

I got my '03 last week for $31.4K+tax+lic, while that is not a great deal on the east coast, I thought it was pretty good for sunny Southern California.

Shop around and check with other sources such as your credit union (if you have one). It paid off quite well in my case.

Redhawk,

that was just one dealer's asking price. It pays to shop around. If you don't want to waste time, just call or email all your local Honda dealers. But if you have your heart set on a white S2000 then you either have to pay a little more or be more patient. White is the rarest color. If you are flexible on colors I don't see why you can't get a new S2000 at a great price. Many people on this board have bought new S2Ks under 30k. Good luck.
