Just curious, I wonder if cops have to pay car insurance? Because if they do, you figure they wouldn't give out so many tickets, because theoretically it causes there insurance to go up in the long run too, right? Just a thought.........

Sorry to hear 'bout the ticket. Just be glag it wasn't for 15 over. Some states, CA for one, 15 over=reckless driving (at the discretion of the officer) and that can be a real problem.

appreciate the sympathy.... yea, i'm glad it wasn't reckless... I guess I shouldn't be so bitter, but it just irratates the hell out of me because I don't even have perm. tags on my car yet! Oh well, live ya learn i guess.... I guess I'll just go the speed limit now and have people tale gate my arse, OH wait, those people never get pulled over for "following to close". Where's the logistics in that?

Brake check the people following you too close. That'll back them off.

11 is definitly fair game most anywhere. The general rule of thumb is just 5 over. I won't go higher than 10 over, that's usually the flow of traffic or slightly faster.

Anything else is asking for a ticket, especially in an S.

Damn! Failure to use turn signal when changing lanes? Now that is lame! I hate when cops pull you over for ridiculous reasons. That's WEAK!

As for my area (north central Florida), you will get a warning from 1-4 mph over. They enacted this as law after several local "small towns" had major speed traps and were making much revenue thanks to traffic tickets. Ever since that fiasco, it was changed so that you must be going at least 5 mph over to get ticketed. Price here is $55 for 5-9 over; $135 for 10-14 over; $165 for 15-19 over, and then you start paying big bucks once you exceed 20 over.

The "warning" and 1-4 mph over rule do not apply to school zones. Those are an automatic double fines for anything over the posted limit...I believe they are in the $200 range for 1-4 mph over.

Oh yeah, I've asked the officer on two separate occasions (once in my Type R, once in my S2K) if I could just get a warning.

That didn't work.

Actually, I just had the opposite reaction yesterday. I got pulled over for doing 81 in a 55.

Here's the scene. I'm on a country road that I've been traveling often with no cars ahead as far as I can see (about 3/4 of a mile). After 3/4 of a mile, the road starts sweeping to the left and goes up hill. There is no place for cops to sit and radar and I've never seen one on this road in the past month. There are no intersections near by for crossing traffic and pretty much uninhabitant land on either side. It's about 70degrees, not a cloud in the sky, tops is down, and I decide to drop in down into 2nd gear. Shift to 3rd, 4th... now I'm doing near 100 and I let off the gas and let it coast up and around this sweeper. Wouldn't you know it, I get to the crest of this hill and there's a cop coming the other way. Absolutely no time to brake as I go by him and I start hoping he's going to keep going. Sure enough, brake lights. He pulls a U-turn in the road and starts trailing me. By now, I've got it in neutral and pretty much pulling over since I know he's coming for me.

He gets out of the car, comes up to me and says, "Reason I pulled ya over is because I clocked you doing 81 in a 55. Any reason why you were going that fast?". Me, trying to be as honest as possible, "Well sir, it's a nice sunny day and I was just having a little fun." He takes my license and sits in his car for a few minutes as I sit in mine kicking myself in the ass for being an idiot. He winds up coming back and says, "Most people would write you a ticket, but I'm going to give you a warning. Take it easy and be safe for me, ok?". I said, "Yes sir, thank you." and off I went. I thought I was hosed. Good thing I was on the deccel or I would have really gotten it at near 100. I've debated whether to drop $400 into a V1 now, but I think I'll just save the speed runs for straight roads. Classic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is only the second time since I've been driving that I've gotten pulled over (10 years) and neither one of them got me a ticket.
