I was driving down the highway (hour drive) and half-way through my trip a big storm rolled in. I just kept driving in the pouring rain with my top down and it was fine... but I kept my speed above 80 mph.

People were really looking at me weird!

It takes a MONSTER srotm to get mee to put my top up. I drive top-down in the rain all the time and here's what I've observed:

Over 50mph you're okay
Just a little water trails in off the mirrors but not enough to worry about. Also, depending on the severity of the storm, you could get some mist off the windshield header on your rear-view mirror so you've got to dry it off periodically. If you must put the top up hold out for an underpass. And always keep your elbows in.

Once I got caught in a huge thunderstorm on my way to Atlanta. I just kept on truckin until I had passed through it. People were looking at me like I was an idiot, too. About halfway through it I passed an old guy in a Z3 with his top down! We shared a quick and I was on my way.

Yep, works pretty well.. when it really starts pouring, I hope I'm coming up to an overpass

Never tried it, but seems to me like it would work.....

Too bad in NY, its really hard to keep your speed at 50 or above.

I don't drive the car in the rain at all, let alone with the top down.

i have managed to make it through a few small showers with the top down and no problems, until the other day it started to sprinkle, then the sky was getting black ahead of me. As i was driving i could see the line of rain that looked like the bottom was dropping out of it, so i immediately pulled over and right as my top was starting to come up it was like a wall of a tidal wave hit me inside my car, thank goodness the top was on its way up though and it wasn't continuous. I think this one guy slowed down and turned really slow on the purpose the other day too because it was slightly raining but wasn't hitting me at all since i was going like 55 until that guy just basically stopped in the middle of the highway to turn into a road. needless to say i wasn't wet but for like 5 seconds til i got back up to 55

hahh...great post...ya i remember going like 80-90 with light drizzle on highway,,people just looking over at me,but not one drop falling in the car...so tell me,if you disable the sensor, is it possible to actually to put the top up while flying??(or going slowly..) i would think if youre going too fast, it wouldnt be good for the mechanism (the moment where its going up at the highest point, wouldnt the wind be going against it too much?)..peace
